Hello all! And Happy Thanksgiving!
I don't have much to report (as far as planning goes) this issue. I'm just taking care of some minor details, like booking hotel rooms for out-of-town guests, etc. I'm also doing some investigating into what to do for the bridesmaid's luncheon. I'd like the five of us to go to a spa and eat brunch and drink some mimosas or Bloody Mary's while we relax and get our nails and makeup done. Do you all like that idea? Let me know. The biggest news is what's happening after the wedding. I think I've told most of you, but Alex and I are moving to Santa Barbara after he graduates. He and one of his classmates are opening a law firm out there. We're really excited about the move, but a little nervous since we'll be getting married, graduating, selling our house, and moving -- all in a few months. But I'm sure it will work out great and all of you can come visit once we're settled! I hope all of you have a great holiday! I'll be thinking of each of you! Love, Lori |
Catherine Cuellar
I first heard about Catherine before she had even arrived at Rhodes. She was a year behind me in college and the Tri Delts were reviewing our rushees before school started. We were all very impressed with Catherine because she had such great grades and impressive extracurricular activities. To this day, I have remained impressed with Catherine and all of her accomplishments and successes.
Catherine and I have a lot in common. We're both from Dallas and are big fans of the Cowboys (and of Texas). We're both Mexican food junkies. And we're both writers. I admire Catherine because she is also so much more. . .
Professionally, Catherine is amazing. She has so many goals for herself and is not afraid to take risks to accomplish them. In the summer of 2000, Catherine moved to Los Angeles after nearly single-handedly establishing the Dallas Morning News online arts and entertainment resource. In Los Angeles, she has freelanced for many publications, including writing movie reviews and interviewing stars for Broadcast.com. She currently directs the public relations work of National Public Radio in Los Angeles and continues to freelance constantly. On top of that, she is working on a feature story about a friend of hers with a very colorful family history that she hopes to make into a novel someday.
Even with all these irons in the fire, Catherine makes plenty of time for friends. And she really takes the time to get to know you on an intimate level. While in Memphis recently for Rhodes Homecoming, Catherine had nonstop plans with people she wanted to catch up with. She truly cares about others and is a real friend.
I admire Catherine on both these levels. She pushes me to set and reach goals in my professional career and she reminds me how important it is to reach out to others and maintain friendships. I feel lucky to have her in my life and am glad that I'll be moving nearer to her in the spring! |
